Room to explore!

Here is our room to grow and explore when not discovering outside in the world.  It is a work in progress and is now with upgraded carpet but you get the idea.  It is set up in different sections of learning so Michael can flow from one subject to another as his interests direct him.  Many areas have inspiration from Montessori tray work and subject areas to make concepts more concrete.  I am hoping that when he really gets interested in an area we can expand and bring it more to life in our little room.

Michael and his dad found a nest in the bushes out front this past winter.  We brought it inside and placed it in our science area so we could observe it.  I picked out some photos from Vermont that bring color, texture, and discussions to our room.  Michael likes to pick up the photos and pick out colors.  I am trying to have him learn how to observe the world around him in a Charlotte Mason way.  We have nature journals and we would like to start noting the birds that come to our back yard and to sketch their differences that Michael notices.

Since it is spring and the birds are singing we thought it would be fun to dig in bird seed and then when we have had our fill we can fill the bird feeders with the leftover.  Michael really enjoys the texture of the different seeds and also to take his magnifying glass and look at single seeds.  Today he was so excited to find sunflower seeds that we took out a handful and planted them in some soil to see if we could grow them from the seed.  He was happy to dig, push the seed into the soil, water, and then wait for it to blossom.  I told him it would take a bit of sunshine and some days for it to bud out of the soil.  So we placed them by the window in the kitchen and will wait to sketch the plants if they come up.

Spring is a chance for new beginnings, may we all find some rejuvenation and blessings to make our moments filled with hope and inspiration.
